Haha. That's why the really smart kids just took college classes. Easier and you get the credit without having to pass any tests.

I did IB in high school. Not because I wanted to do it, but because my mom insisted. Kinda long story there.

I graduated 15 years ago. While I and many of my IB classmates are successful adults in our early 30s, plenty other folks I went to high school and didn't do IB are just as successful.

Honestly, unless you're trying to get into the very elite universities, it's not really worth the hassle.

I actually have no choice but to take IB, since my school doesn't offer anything else apart from BTEC which a more vocational course and carries a ton of stigma for being a course for "stupid" people.

It's a wonder why I even try. Some of my friends are predicted full marks, whereas I'm only predicted 35/45.

I was about to reply there, but here is much more calm.

High School IB alum here. This was in the early 90's - it was a non-zoned magnet program and was totally separate from AP. Honestly, I don't remember it being so brutal, but I ... didn't really care.

I have the affliction of being able to sleep through weeks of History classes and still ace the test. Attempting this technique with other subjects, ah, didn't work.

Yeah, I did IB my freshman and sophomore years and then was like, 'fuck this, i'm just going to a state school anyways.' If I could do high school over, I would drop out the first year, get a GED and start community college at 16. The first 2 years of college are just a repeat of high school, only the classes are easier. At that rate, you finish your AA at 18, transfer to any school you want, and you're done at 20. That puts you way ahead of everyone else who stayed in high school, studying their asses off and pulling their hair out.

Another high school IB alum here. Can confirm IB stands for Is Bullshit. Waste of time and means more tests (money) to take. After you get into college, nobody gives two shits that you were in IB or AP. To those still in high school do what Baeormez says. Best piece of advice I've read in a long time.

That is fascinating and awesome. The only hole I see is the scholarship process - even state schools have them, and it can make a big difference, depending on your field. With a GED and AA at 18, do you think you'd get the same scholarship opportunities as a HS senior who jumped through all the hoops?

That's a good point. In my state, if you maintain a certain GPA and do some community service you can get a full scholarship to a state school. However, there are tons of other opportunities for scholarships out there for those willing to apply for them. That being said, most college students take out student loans anyway, why not get a head start on paying them back?

Also did IB in HK. I found the trick to IB is to pick classes like Environmental studies and fluffy stuff to get the points easier. At the end people only care about the number. Unfortunately I discovered this after i graduated. But the good news is....life gets even harder later on!

All i can remember from IB is Starcraft and counterstrike...perhaps i did something wrong there....
